SENIOR PROGRAMS
ACTIVE ADULTS
ACTIVE ADULT DAY TRIPS (for the over 50 crowd)
Pre-registration is required. Trips fill quickly, so early registration is suggested. All trips leave from the Signal Hill Library, 1770 E. Hill Street. For more details, call the Community Services Department at (562) 989-7330. Excursion destinations and fees are subject to change. To guarantee a refund, all cancellation requests must be received at least ten business days prior to trip.
Mission San Juan Capistrano & Lunch
Depart: Thursday, March 18, 10:30 a.m. Return: 5:30 p.m.

Take a ride to San Juan Capistrano where we will disembark for lunch at the EL Adobe Restaurant featuring a choice of Chicken Tostada Salad, Club sandwich, or two chicken or cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. After lunch we will have time to browse through the shops before taking a walking tour of Mission San Juan Capistrano also a brief stop at the Serra Chapel is in store for the day.
Historic Downtown Tour with Jonathan SOLD OUT

Jonathan is back by popular demand! We will meet Jonathan at the Downtown Music Center and explore the Historic Downtown section of Los Angeles. Enjoy a walking tour that includes visits to the Bradbury Building, Pershing Square, Central Public Library and Biddy Mason Park. Lunch will be on your own at Philippe’s-the Original Restaurant known for their famous French Dipped Sandwiches.
Knott’s Berry Farm and Lunch

Enjoy a day at Knott’s Berry Farm where we will have a private all you can eat buffet featuring Mrs. Knott’s Famous Fried Chicken, Cherry Rhubarb, mashed potatoes and gravy, barbecued beef on buns, corn, deviled eggs, and fresh Boysenberry pie. After our 2 hour luncheon you will have time to explore the theme park including the rides, shows, and attractions.
Rancho Los Alamitos with Lunch
Depart: Thursday, May 20, 10:30 a.m. Return: 2:30 p.m.

We will visit Rancho Los Alamitos, a nationally recognized 7.5 area site with a history of the people and culture of Southern California. Our tour of the Historic Ranch and Garden will begin with a garden tour and an exclusive lunch set in the majestic garden. Lunch includes Caesar Salad, Rancho Tri-Tip, Grilled Garden Vegetables, Spanish rice, Fresh Tortillas, and Flan. After lunch we will head into the Ranch house for a tour before heading home.
The Getty Center - Los Angeles
Depart: Thursday, June 17, 9:30 a.m.
Return: 3:30 p.m.

Spend a day at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Upon arrival you will take five-minute tram ride up to the museum where you will find an orientation overview of the museum. From there you will have time to explore on your own. The scheduled exhibition is A Record of Emotion: The Photographs of Frederick Evans. The museum offers free daily tours of the garden and architecture. There are several eateries located within the museum to enjoy lunch on your own.
SOCIAL SERVICES
The Brown Bag Program
We live in a time where people are living longer lives. The quality of food as well as our diets has declined over the past decade. Whether due to tight budgets or poor choices, many find themselves not getting the proper nutrients to keep their bodies healthy and strong. A supplement of groceries is available semimonthly to low-income residents of Signal Hill, over the age of 55, through the City's "Brown Bag Food Distribution Program." Limited funds are available for this program.The City receives funding for this program annually from a Community Development Block Grant from the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission. The amount varies annually. Applications are available through the Community Services Department(562) 989-7330.
TRANSPORTATION
The Signal Hill subsidized transportation program is available by application to Signal Hill residents that are over the age of 62 OR 18 years and older who can provide proof of disability. Programs allow a reduced fare monthly bus pass for Long Beach Transit buses or Dial-A-Taxi voucher books allowing subsidized use of the Yellow Cab service. DIAL-A-LIFT
Dial-A-Lift Long Beach is a curb-to-curb, shared ride transit service exclusively for the mobility impaired residing in and traveling throughout the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood and Signal Hill. Signal Hill residents who are at least 18 years of age, permanently mobility impaired and unable to board or access the Long Beach Transit fixed route bus system are eligible to apply for Dial-A-Lift membership. Persons must be able to wait at a curb up to 30 minutes.
Long Beach Transit has contracted Taxi Systems, Inc. (TSI) to operate Dial-A-Lift. Long Beach Transit certifies eligibility, manages membership, monitors the service and provides customer service support. TSI drivers are trained and sensitive to the needs of persons with disabilities.
To request an application call (562) 591-8753. Long Beach Transit will be happy to answer any questions and help you through the membership application process. Once your doctor has completed and signed the application, submit it to Long Beach Dial-A-Lift and you will be called to schedule an interview with a Dial-A-Lift administrator.
